Strength comes when you thrive in the face of adversity.
-Wendy Nicole Anderson
In the wake of a crisis people automatically assume the worst and resort to confusion and partake in activities that will not serve them in the future. Instead of morphing into a proactive frame of mind, it seems to be second nature to think of everything that could go wrong, dwell on what has happened, and finally shift into depression,
self-sabotaging thoughts, and behaviors.
Have you ever wondered why that is? Why are we naturally conditioned to think the worst? Why, because no one has effectively taught us how to seek the good in a situation that may not be favorable. News flash…life was not designed for you to fix what is broken, if it is broken, it broke for a reason, something didn’t work out for a reason. Life responds to evolution and so should you.
So far, scientist has not discovered how to create a time machine, so stop being stuck in the past, the hurt, the pain, the anger, and beating yourself up for lost time or what did or didn’t happen.
I challenge you to think about…..what’s next? What do you want to transpire in your life and what are you willing to do to make it a reality? Just to be clear on what I am saying…..Shit has hit the fan, now what are you going to do to move forward? To ponder over something that has already happened or going to happen and allowing yourself to become emotionally drained will only stagnate your potential to capitalize on a rare opportunity. Get out of your feelings, tell fear to fuck off, roll your sleeves up and start thinking about ways you can absolutely change your situation.
Being solution oriented means that you are an effective problem solver. You are only interested in how to turn a negative into a positive. It’s not that you are blind to the things in life that you can not change, you just refuse to focus on variables that you do not have any control over.
Let’s break down what may constitute as a crisis in today’s society. A failed marriage, unemployment, passed over for a promotion, not getting the job you prepared months for, financial mismanagement and or health issues. We can agree that these are all some pretty heavy issues that can effect the quality of our lives. Regardless of what your personal crisis is, you have the power to take control of the issue by making a simple to decision to let some things go in your life or fight for your cause until you get the results you desire. Either way you have to be willing to decide what direction to go in and be content with your decision. You have to be willing to try and do somethings that will push you outside of your comfort zone, if you are looking for new results. Warning….be careful of what you pray for. God has a way of changing your situation by pushing you out of your comfort zone so that you can acquire what you asked for. If you seek clarity, then be prepared to tackle the challenges that you encounter in life and have a winning mindset.
Because I am an advocate of being solution oriented, I wanted to share with you my perspective of what traits a solution oriented person possess. Take the time to read over this short list and ask yourself….is this me and if not, what do I need to do to become solution oriented.
Traits of a Solution Oriented Person:
- Have the ability to look at the situation for what it is. Don’t get emotionally involved. Evaluate the facts and only focus on the possibility of what could be….the future.
- Systematic and strategic. After assessing the situation, they look for ways to bring their idea to life. What happened or what was is no longer a factor. Their intention is to move from point A to point B. They are intentional and they are relentless in their pursuit to change their reality.
- Doesn’t feed the fear and doesn’t bow down to excuses….the shoulda, couldas, and if’s have no place in their efforts to move forward. They have the ability to ask themselves the hard questions. They don’t run from the ugly truth. They are willing to face it so that they don’t make the same mistake again. They don’t get stuck in the “I don’t know zone” because they are willing to explore their options. They are able to stay calm in the midst of chaos. They have an idea of what the end result looks like. They make decisions that are in alignment with their purpose. They don’t make blind decisions. Consideration, research, and soul searching is required to help them become effective decision makers.
- Hands down are a “Get it Done Person” regardless of adversity, limited or no resources. When faced with a No or unsatisfactory situation they are determined to make things pan out in their favor because their WHY has been defined and they have a clear picture of their desired future self.
- Solution Oriented people excel in the midst of madness. They are able to see clear through the bullshit and zero in on what matters the most, their goals, their happiness, and personal welfare.
It is my wish that the next time something in your life does not go the way that you want that you take the time to clear your head and I mean really clear your head and be frank about the situation. Make a decision that will serve the greater good, your purpose, and your happiness. Stop taking life so literal, be willing to be flexible, and enjoy the ride call life. You only get to live once so you might as well take control of your life instead of letting life’s situations take control of you.

I’ve always considered myself to be a solution oriented person. I have been making decisions for as long as I can remember but instead for others. I mean, the outcome I would like to see for others; other people’s welfare. I believe this article will help me to focus on the greater good, my purpose and definitely for my happiness. Thanks Wendy.
